The West Rand is that part of the Witwatersrand extending from Randfontein in the west to Roodepoort in the east (part of Greater Joburg Metro). The West Rand District Municipality includes four local municipalities: Mogale City (Krugersdorp), Merafong City, Randfontein & Westonaria. Carletonville and Fochville are also part of the Far West Rand. The areas are economically linked to the city of Joburg through the gold mining industry with some of the richest gold mines in the world. The major tourist attraction on the West Rand is undoubtedly the World Heritage Site of the Cradle of Humankind incorporating Maropeng, Sterkfontein Cave and Wondercave. Other attractions include the Magalies Meander, the Crocodile River Arts & Crafts Ramble, and the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens.
Quiet Mountain Country House is an idyllic retreat in the shadow of the Magaliesberg Mountain Range, close to the Cradle of Humankind, the Sterkfontein Caves and Maropeng. Charming en-suite accommodation and excellent cuisine with walks to the top of the mountain, swimming and blissful peace and quiet. Our Jersey cows supply us with delicious creamy milk and butter and our yogurt is homemade. Our free-range hens provide us with fresh eggs. We have only 9 suites, and do not take children or day visitors, so one is assured of a very private and quiet time. Set in beautiful gardens there is an abundance of bird life. Hot air ballooning launch site is close by, as are various outdoor activities.
