Vaal Triangle

Traditionally, the Vaal Triangle has always been known as an area of land formed by Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark and Sasolburg - three small cities that together comprise a substantial urban and industrial complex. The area straddles the Vaal River and is home to ArcelorMittal South Africa (iron and steel) and Sasol, the steel and oil-from-coal processing facilities. Along with Meyerton and Heidelberg, due to their close proximity, and Sharpeville, Evaton, & Orange Farm they are all part of greater Sedibeng & Sebokeng District Municipalities. The Vaal River forms a natural border between the Free State and Gauteng, separates Sasolburg (on the river's southern banks in the northern-most part of the Free State) from Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark (both on the northern banks in southern Gauteng). Less than less than an hour's drive from Johannesburg, with some of South Africa's most beautiful towns situated along the Vaal River and the Vaal Dam, visitors can relax and enjoy one of South Africa's most unique areas. With its river views and the scenic Vaal Dam, the area has been a weekend getaway and recreation playground destination for Gautengers for more than 100 years.
